AUDITIONS ON MARCH 29TH FROM 12 PM – 4 PM AT NCMCNORTHAMPTON COMMUNITY MUSIC CENTER on South Street in Northampton.

Please prepare a song and be ready to read from the script. Rosemary’s music is like traditional Irish music with a modern flair.

Auditions are for Banrion Boru, The Viking Queen a play with music based on the life of the last high queen of Ireland, Gormlaith, the wife of Brian Boru with music by Rosemary Caine and book and lyrics by Talaya Delaney

Music rehearsals for principals and chorus will take place during evenings the first two weeks of June followed by a rehearsal schedule taking place on evenings and weekends at Deerfield Academy.

Directed by Linda McInerney presented by Old Deerfield Productions with music coaching by Jane Hanson. Set design by Amy B. Davis, Costume design by Brooke Steinhauser, Dramaturgy by Marissa Elkins, Lighting design by Calvin Anderson.

Performed in the Reid Theatre at Deerfield Academy on July 9-12 and 16-19, 2009

Gormlaith: the Viking Queen: the last high queen of Ireland, wife of Brian Boru- Soprano/Mezzo Soprano (20’s – 40’s)

Aval: a crone from the old ways- cast

Brian Boru: the last high king of Ireland (60’s)- High Baritone

Olaf: first husband of Gormlaith (30’s)- High Baritone- doubles with chorus

Malachy: second husband of Gormlaith (30’s – 40’s)- doesn’t sing- doubles with chorus

Young Gormlaith- Mezzo Soprano – (should be able to pass for 13 and then to 18)- doubles with chorus

Emer: daughter of Brian from a previous marriage- Mezzo soprano -Doubles with chorus (20’s)

Maelmora: brother of Gormlaith- Baritone- Doubles with chorus (20’s – 30’s)

Sigurd- Bass- Doubles with chorus (20’s -30’s)

Bromir- Bass- Doubles with chorus(20’s -30’s)

Sitric: son of Gormlaith- High Baritone- Doubles with chorus (20’s)
